4 Methods to Clean your Wedding Ring | Cleaning Your Engagement Ring at Home

Going to the jeweler to clean your engagement ring can be too expensive nowadays! There are multiple at-home options for you to try that are cost-efficient, convenient, and contain ingredients that you possibly already have under your sink! I have tested out the four most common methods of how to clean your wedding ring and have ranked them based on effectiveness, convenience, and price.

Method 1: Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner

The Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner solution brings back sparkles and radiance to your jewelry. It comes in a 8 ounce bottle for just under $11. Using only a small capful with a 1:30 ratio of water in the Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner device, it will produce a beautiful shine to your ring after a few minutes. There are several settings to the device, based on how long you want to run the machine. After inserting your ring into the basket, close the lid, and simply press start.

My Review: Although Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner is a best-seller on Amazon, it unfortunately did not live up to my expectations. Besides just being an expensive product, it did not thoroughly clean my ring. It was still able to produce a shine, but failed to get out much of the dirt from the smaller cracks. Also, for the amount of cleaner solution it recommended to use, it did not seem to be enough to make a difference between only using water, so I would be generous in pouring it into the device. Although this would be a great product to use if you had multiple pieces of jewelry to clean all at once, you want to be more delicate in handling and cleaning than throwing it in a washer with other pieces of metal.

Method 2: Simple Shine Liquid Cleaner

The Simple Shine Liquid Cleaning Kit provides you with a cleaning solution, small brush, and polishing cloth for you to clean your ring at home. The solution claims to be gentle yet effective, and has no toxic additives. The solution comes in a 6 ounce container and the whole kit comes in at $29.99.

My Review: The actual liquid produced a beautiful shine to the ring. However, the process of contaminating the liquid with dirt and oil each time you want to clean your ring did not sit well with me. Over time, there will be a layer of dirt at the bottom and the liquid will produce a duller shine. The small brush was effective, but its bristles were slightly rougher than I had hoped. I had to be slow and methodical in my movements with it out of fear of scratching the diamond. The polishing cloth was a nice way to do touch ups and dry the ring softly. Overall, this is still a good choice for cleaning your engagement ring, but I would still not prefer it over the other options.

Method 3: DIY Bling Wash

This DIY Bling Wash is a simple mixture of two cups of Windex and a couple drops of dish soap. Heat these ingredients in the microwave for a minute, and then let your ring sit in the mixture for 15 minutes. Afterwards, with a baby toothbrush (softer bristles!), get the remaining dirt out from the crevices.

My Review: Windex and dish soap can go a long way! The shine it produced was beautiful and was not cloudy at all. The only negative part of this method was the time it takes to prepare and wait, but for the result, it is worth it.

Method 4: Diamond Dazzle Stik

The Diamond Dazzle Stik is a brush that spreads a solution as you clean your ring. Its soft, thin bristles are able to carefully clean behind stones and in the mountings. Just twist to dispense the solution, and clean your ring with ease for under $7.

My Review: The Diamond Dazzle Stik completely shocked me! It gives an instantaneous shine to the ring, restores the color, and is perfect for a quick clean on the go. It did a great job of getting the dirt and oil out, and only could see the smallest particles left over if I closely examined the ring. Overall, this is the best way of how to clean your wedding ring.
